Hi Greg & Donna :)
This sounds like that problem of sessions becoming 'ghosts' that comes
around every couple versions of the OS...

Session is visible but for all practical purposes doesn't exist... I
know I posted about it years ago when I was having it at OHSU Foundation...
and I remember trying some very arcane majical things late one night after
all the elves, er users had gone home for the night... all I got was a
crashed system ;} But... the session was gone :) hehe

 Anyone remember this issue?

And at the time, one of the list's greater lights shared my pain.

I could swear that I opened an SR for the then-current version of the OS,
60, IIRC. Exactly as you describe, grep hanging.

For a possible way to avoid some of this, see
