I'm not sure what you suggest is going to work, for at least all these
reasons :
1) While "SCSI is SCSI" (re: several posts 2-3 years ago), there's SE and
differential SCSI. Then there's HVD and LVD. Then, there's Ultra-2, -3 and
-4 (a.k.a. 320). Double-check what you really are going to buy.
2) I've not heard before today of a 750 gig SCSI drive. Couldn't it be a
SATA drive ?
3) Also check the connectors. Single-ended SCSI has 50 pins, differential
SCSI has 68 pins, in both HD (i.e. large) and VHD (small, of course)
formats. If your disk does not have a 68-pin connector, it's most likely not
differential SCSI.
4) AFAIK, MPE/iX has been enhanced to support "large" (i.e. up to, perhaps,
400 gigs) disks. I'm not absolutely sure it would see all the space of a
750-gig disk. Jim H., Jeff V., are you there ?
5) In theory (see the old "SCSI is SCSI" thread), firmware should not be a
problem. I've often used non-HP disks on HP3000s, and vice versa.
These are a few caveats, just from memory (could be from disk, too, pun
intended). Hope that helps anyway.
