We've used the following multi-step process.
(1) Define a ghost spooler device "EMAIL" and set the outfence on the device so that nothing ever prints (stopspool the device too?)
(2) Create spool files to that device (see note below)
(3) Run a reflection/minisoft script that, every 20 seconds looks for spoolfiles on that device and transfers them to the PC. This step uses the spoolers OWNER information to ensure that only production spoolfiles get transferred to the users - any other spoolfiles for this device are transferred to a special PC directory which step (4) ignores.
(4) Run an Gupta/SQL program that reads the contents of each file on the PC and emails it using some GroupWise API.
Notes
We use the above to send single page exception reports to our users.
First we write a program that creates a standard paper report. Then we add a few extra lines at the top of the report which step (4) needs to forward the email. - eg "TO: ADS CC:ABC Subject:Overdrawn report".
A colleague developed step (4) - hence I'm a little bit vague here.
