I'm sorry to hear that you're giving up on Allbase, it's a
fine product that can actually out perform other RDBMS' on
MPE/iX. I've used it for years, and yes I've had quite a
few problems along the way but HP has always been very
responsive in trying to get things straightened out. If HP
had pushed Allbase more instead of trying to lead people
over to Oracle then maybe the larger user-base would
have lead to a larger database lab, and therefore a more
robust product than it already is.
I'd think that the problems you've experienced with Allbase
in particular, must be some form of "corner-case" since one
of my largest customers has successfully been running several
very large applications in a shadowed environment (Allbase/Replicate
and Netbase/SQL) with very good results for years. I use Allbase
for most all of my Internet demonstrations involving a database,
and recommend the combination of MPE/iX and Allbase/SQL
as a database server for heavy Internet web applications.
I'm sure that's little comfort to you considering your circumstances,
but I'm sure your case is not "the norm".

Regards,
Michael L Gueterman

Sorry if I seem a bit cynical. HP does not have a great track record with
us over the last couple of years. It's sad, but we have had to give up
entirely on trying to get a stable AllBase system out of HP. Our major
relational database is now running in parallel on Oracle, and soon, AllBase
will be discarded. It's pretty sad that Oracle on the 3000 is more stable
than HP's own product.
