Hello Troels,
16-bit drivers *will* work with Win95. Win95 was designed for backward
compatibility with Windows 3.x (3.1 and WFWG).
First, ensure that you have the 16-bit ODBC Administrator installed (it
does come as part of the HP PC/API package). With this, ODBC16 (which is
regular ODBC, as opposed to ODBC32, which is the newer, 32-bit ODBC which
is installed if using tools such as Access 95 (7.0). One way to tell if
you have it is to look at the Control Panel (Start/Settings/Control Panel)
--- if you see ODBC and ODBC32 - you have both. If you have just ODBC,
then this is 16-bit ODBC. If you have just ODBC32, then you need to
reinstall the 16-bit ODBC Administrator (again, it is part of the HP
PC/API, or you could install Access 2.0, Excel 4.0 or Office 4.2
Professional which will give it to you). You don't have to install these
*full* products - you can do a custom install and just install the ODBC
components.
Once this is installed on your system, you may need to hand-tool the
ODBC.INI file in your \WINDOWS folder for HP PC/API as installation of it
on a Win95 system is not necessarily *clean*.
Hope this helps.
