I think this is my first posting on this list. I hope you can help me with
this. Every morning around 5:00 am we run a job that reports the status of
our network. This is part of the job;

!COMMENT  NETWORK CONFIGURATION INFORMATION
!COMMENT    USING NETCONTROL & NSCONTROL
!
!NETCONTROL STATUS
!
!NETCONTROL STATUS;NET=LAN1
!
!NETCONTROL STATUS;NI=LAN1
!
!NETCONTROL VERSION

!NETCONTROL VERSION=MOD
!
!LISTF CI.PUB.SYS,8
!
!LISTF DOIONOW.PUB.SYS,-3
!
!PRINT ONLNOLOG.PUB.SYS
!
!NSCONTROL STATUS=SUMMARY

Most days the report displays
TOTAL NUMBER OF SERVERS: 0 (zero)

On FEB 15, 2005 5:13AM
The report displayed
TOTAL NUMBER OF SERVERS:           49

Yet no sessions were active. When staff started logging on to the 3000 some
were able to access the system, yet others were never able to get a
connection. I myself was unable to get a logon prompt. Thanks to my handy-
dandy 700/92 HP terminal (with a serial connection) I was able to logon as
MANAGER.SYS. Glance seemed to be in a loop when I issued an "A"(dispay all
processes) in the GLOBAL screen. So, I tried the usual stuff;
 NETCONTROL NET=LOOP;STOP
 NETCONTROL NET=LAN1;STOP
 NSCONTROL STOP

And then tried to restart the network;
 NETCONTROL NET=LOOP;START
 NETCONTROL NET=LAN1;START
 NSCONTROL START

But still had problems. So we decided to reboot. However, after entering
the SHUTDOWN command, it only got as far as SHUT 4 and locked up. nothing
happened for about 5 minutes. So I powered down the 3000. After about what
seemed like eternity we powered back up and the 3000 came up without a
problem. Haven't had any probelms since. We did a reboot this morning, no
hangups or error messages.

Had this happened Monday, I would have attributed it to St. Valentines Day
(Massacre). Or the wicked witch (but I thought she died last week).

Has any one had this type of situation before?
Thanks in advance for any help that you may provide.
