I had the very distinct honor of working with Jeff in the "early days." He
was a gentleman and a gentle man.
After a few early encounters I realized just how bright he was. We'd be
talking about some heavy technical topic (channel programs on an IBM 360,
B-tree coding, stuff like that) and I'd think he wasn't paying attention.
Then I figured it out: he was politely allowing me to catch up to where he
was in the thought process so we could discuss the real problem :)
Art was right: we have all lost a great friend. He is greatly missed.
