Because of a number of private communications that have come my way, I now
fairly strongly feel that we should suspend the fund raising campaign for the
WSJ ad. It is my strong impression that Winston has and will continue to talk
to Ann and Carly about a much greater exposure of MPE and the HP3000, not
only to the outside world, but within all of the various divisions of HP
itself. Because of that, I feel that we should honorably give HP a chance to
make good on that effort.

I have been very impressed with the willingness of people on this list to
contribute to this campaign. In just four days, we have been able to raise
nearly 30% of the targetted goal. If everyone agrees that HP should be given
the chance to demonstrate their committment to MPE, then I believe that the
money collected so far should be returned to the various contributors.

It's important to understand that this is not necessarily over. If, in six
months, nothing much has changed, we can do this all over again, but then
perhaps with even greater unrest driving the process.

Obviously, for changes to occur, HP has to be given some time. Changes on the
order that we're talking about can't be implemented overnight. But as any
number of people have pointed out, mentioning MPE -- and even celebrating it
-- in the public speeches given by the leadership of HP cost nothing and can
be begun almost immediately. That's something that can be closely watched in
the next few months.

It is my strong impression that we've done some good already, but that now we
need to let HP show us their resolve. And if it's not there, we can do this
again in a very short while.
