The trouble with the experiment was that they did not give the monkeys
typewriters. They gave the monkeys keyboards and terminals. The monkeys got
caught up watching the letters appear on the screen, particularly the letter
"s." If they had given the monkeys less sophisticated technology they would
have had an easier time "encoding" Shakespeare.

I also think that the bar was set way to high. I personally would have been
satisfied if the had reproduced the complete works of Francis Bacon. In fact
I would have even accepted the complete works of Kevin Bacon, to whom the
monkeys are related six time removed.

I once tried this experiment with a flock of turkeys and a typewriter. I
tossed seed on the keys and let the birds randomly peck. When I came back I
was disappointed to find that they had only typed: "To be or not to be that
is the questiowsmpb."

Let Peace be the maxim by which we act because we will Peace to become a
universal law.
