There's a couple of ways I can think of:
1.) Write a subroutine that does integer division for powers of ten. This
will give you the digit and you can get the ASCII for the digit and store it
in a string. The power of ten will be the index to the string.
2.) Use Fortran internal files.
char*10 numString
integer numInt
write(unit=numString,fmt='i10') numInt
