I've seen 8 DTC48s connected remotely over a 56KB link with no bandwidth
issues. The bandwidth requirements are related to what you're doing. If
you are supporting a number of high speed line printers and doing a lot
printing, bandwidth requirements can increase. If you are doing block mode
terminal I/O then bandwidth requirements are lower. Character mode
applications can also drive up bandwidth.

As is always the case, what you are doing determines the loading. If the T1
line is being used for other things then how much bandwidth is currently
being used and how much remains for the DTCs? You may consider splitting
the T1 and dedicating x-bandwidth to the DTCs and the what remains to the
other traffic.
