Lighting a cigar at a gun range? How very politically incorrect of you!
Also quite dangerous, that black powder stuff, low explosive. (Shudder).
Also, I do not drop my rifle, I'm not French. :-)

My ballistics program shows that my 600 yard loads gets the Hornady 75 gr MC
AMAX to the target in 0.84 seconds. I was wondering about the delay in
bringing down the target. :-)

Art, thanks for the kind words. I will, of course, have to take your word
for it on the combat shooting. The targets in High Power consist of circles
exclusively.

Denys

Welllllll.....since we are talking by kind of talk...

I am a Sharp's shootist who prefers the weapon of choice used during the
great Buffalo hunts of the range rovers of the mid to late 1800's. I compete
in side shoots with my 32" 1874 '45-70 Sharp's at SASS shoots in the South
Texas area every couple of months. It usually takes that long for my old
arthritic shoulder to get back to where I can feel it after competition.
Those of us who shoot the side matches, shoot at 250 and 500 yards. With the
'45-70 cartridge loaded to COWBOY loads(PMC 405g LFP 1250fps) I am about a
foot and half above the 400 yard Buffalo silhouette. I can drop the gun down
and light my cigar before I hear the "CLANG"(well
almost)...slow..slow..slow. But when it does get there...baseball bat
thunk...

Passshaw! When I was a youngster, why I could pick off a Horned Toad at
15 yards with my homemade slingshot - using a single BB!

;-D

Hi Lou & Denys :)
At 200 yards a standard sized man in full "battle rattle" will only
appear about 1 inch high when viewed with the unaided human eye ... This
is an excellent "pattern"!! I normally get a pattern of 2-3 inches at
this distance ... tho' I am shooting in a method that is normally consided
to simulate combat shooting ... ie... the shot is scored if I hit the
man... there are no points ... I normally get the following for my
shooting... (to show that Denys isn't bragging... he is just plain GOOD!)

For those who want to know what the sight picture looks like that
Denys and I are talking about... Take a 3 x 5 card... place it at 25 m
(39.25 inches per meter or so) then look at the 3x5 card thru a hole that is
2-3 millimeters in diameter.... this will simulate the sight picture of a
Man standing about 200m from you....

Marksmanship training has a goal in the US Infantry of a 3 shot group
that can be coverd with a US Dime :) But thsi is shot at a distance of
25m without reloading using a M-16 or M-4 rifle ...
