It's not really for me, they are random Players of the Empire game on the INVENT3K machine. I can't control what software or devices they use.

I presume the INVENT3K machine got the final release of all the patches.

The item just came up lately and I was thinking it has more to do with what the Empire programmer may have tweaked the way he does his file opens and closes.

1. can you use vt-mgr instead of telnet?
2. are you up-to-date on your network patches (especially telnet)?
3. have you read "A Discussion of MPE TCP Timers"
(http://www.allegro.com/?page_id=1391) and applied the recommended settings?
4. do you have sleeper (or similar)?

Subject: [HP3000-L] Ghost Sessions and File Access

I have a machine with some ghost sessions in telnet reading fixed binary
(FB) files that can't be aborted, neither does abortio work on their ldev.

I also have a programmer working on the program that is reading the files.

Is there something that the programmer needs to do to the program that will allow it to let go the files after a certain amount of time. Like an inactivity time-out?

I'm presume this will also solve the ghost session problem.

Or am I missing something else?
