did you pay your $0.25 to ride up with the bridge???  When I was a kid and
visited Duluth with my grandparents, I was told that you could pay a quarter
to park on the bridge when it went up.  Never got to do this though.  You had
to be there when the bridge was going to go up anyway.  For those who don't
know, the Lift Bridge is a horizontal bridge span that rises up at both ends
which each have tall towers.

FYI: On the Great Lakes, all vessels regardless of size are called 'boats'.
An ocean going vessel would be a 'ship'.
