Hi John,

I agree with Mark, we always do the network troubleshooting first,
especially the telnet to port 9100 (or 515 if using LPD/LPR) to see
if the system can connect to the printer.

Is any message displayed on the printer display when the spoolfile is active?

Also as Mark pointed out try a simple NPCONFIG.

In my case, I was using NPCONFIG.PUB.SYS and had created the necessary
ldev entry via ioconfig to enable the device without a reboot:

ioconfig:ad 47 path=none id=HPTCPJD CLASS=MYLP
Class(es) updated, so rerun asoctbl.pub.sys to recreate asociate.pub.sys.
ioconfig:exit
        keeping to group CONFIG.SYS
        Purge old configuration (yes/no)?Automatic yes
** configuration files successfully saved **

<< I ignored the comment about running asoctbl since we are not
associating users to allow access to any operator commands for
the printer >>

For the telnet to port 9100 testing:

If you get a standard telnet connection message, all is good as far
as the connection.

   telnet.arpa.sys 'x.x.x.x 9100'
     Trying...
     Connected to node.fully.qualified.domain.name.
     Escape character is '^]'.
<< type anything and the connection should close >>
<< if not CTRL-] and then quit >>

If you get "Connection refused by host" or any other failure message, then
there is something that is preventing communication between the system and
the remote printer on port 9100...
 telnet.arpa.sys 'x.x.x.x 9100'
 Trying...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

For the Canon 6055, the following were the menu steps to
look at (or modify) the Printers Default Language setting:

Default system Manager user is 7654321 with password 7654321
  Press Settings/Registration
  Press login
Enter System Manager ID as 7654321
  EnterSystem PIN as 7654321

Select Function Settings -> Press Close
  Select Printer Settings
  Select PDL Selection     ->  PCL5e

Thanks,
Gary
