Actually, the answer I got was just what I was looking for. I was
trying to use the STR in front of the CMD, so my attempts at SETVAR
NEWTIM STR ('!HPHOUR:!HPMINUTE') didn't work (I was sure I had to use
the STR part of the CMD, but I was wrong).
Again, thanks to all.
Also, I got some really cool versions of how to account for the zero for
a single digit hour or minute, and my favorite was:
setvar FmtTime "![RHT('0!hphour',2)]:![RHT('0!hpminute',2)]"

do want to look at the DECIMAL, OCTAL and HEX functions.

Hi all,
I thought, at one time, I had converted a numeric to a string in
MPE, but I either never did, or can't remember how. The problem I'm
trying to solve is to pass a formatted time to another process via the
hphour and hpminute vars. For instance hphour = 6 and hpminute = 10, so
the formatted string to pass would be 06:10.
Any help's greatly appreciated.
