The ink Rick is referring to is magnetic toner.  Most banks (but not all)
still require you use magnetic toner to print the MICR coding.  If you are
thinking of printing your own checks, ask your bank for their
specifications - including the placement of the MICR line, what is to be
placed on it, if they require magnetic ink, etc. (every bank is different)
