 I tried to post this to the HP3000-L listserver, but it was blocked as
being spam.  So I'll post it to the newsgroup and see if it makes
it through.

Goetz,

  It turned out that our ISP and news provider decided to restrict access
via username and password instead of (or in addition to?) the IP address
filtering that they had been using.  This didn't do the gateway application
any good. :)  I've made a few changes and I believe things are once
again flowing in both directions.  It may take a little while for the news
servers to update but I just checked the posting server and quite a
few HP3000-L messages were just posted to comp.sys.hp.mpe.
