We are eliminating the SNA link between our HP3000 and IBM 3090's, mainly
because our network people do not want to support SNA tunneling over our
CISCO routers.

The IBM mainframe people have defined jetdirect connected laserjets at our
site for remote printing via tcp/ip. We now use FTP for sending and
receiving files between our HP and the IBM systems. You can submit batch
jobs to JES via FTP from your HP and pull back spoolfiles as well. I found
this following web site to be very helpful in converting to FTP between the
HP and IBM systems:

Subject: Losing our sna nrje link

We currently receive print files from an IBM MVS mainframe via an sna nrje
connection over a leased line. The print files go to the HP 3000 spooler.
Then we use NBSPOOL and MPE to select & process the spool files, sending
some to be printed on our HP line printer, others to printers with ip
addresses defined in the NMMGR directory section, others via FTP to a shared
directory on a Novell file server.

The mainframe computer center wants to stop using this leased line (for
security reasons -- they want everything to go through their firewall), and
the HP response center says that SNA NRJE on the HP 3000 can only connect
via SDLC, X.25, or Token Ring. The mainframe people say they can send the
print files out via Frame Relay (to an IP address?). However, It would save
us a lot of re-programming if we could still get the print files to the HP
spooler after the leased line goes away. Does anyone have any suggestions
or any experience that might apply to our situation?

Thanks for any ideas you can provide.
