well, yes, i'm cringing 8-} i guess i'm wanting something abit more
sophisticated than good ol' report. what i've been playing with (but not having
much success) is -- from inside the shell...
/SYS/PUB: callci "diskuse /HPSPOOL"|tail -1 > temp

now, temp (yes, it's badly named...) contains almost exactly what i want:
    360416 10336 /HPSPOOL/

where i've been running into trouble is trying to get a time stamp onto that
'record' in one swell foop :-) one of my fellow (unix, poor frank) admins
suggested setting a variable with the above command (less the final >) then
echoing the variable along with `date` (gee, did you ever think you'd see an
mpe-er deliberately back quoting? :-) out to a file. something like...
/SYS/PUB: export V='callci "diskuse /HPSPOOL"|tail -1'
/SYS/PUB: echo $V `date` > temp

what i'm getting, however, is literally the contents of V along with a time stamp
:-(

any suggestions? - d
