Hello Frank,
: The questions are:
: 1. Does anyone know what a -29 error from telenet is and where these
: messages can be found.
An error -29 is:
Could not create buffer pool for Telnet subsystem
Call to initialize telnet server failed with error -29
: 2. Where are there instructions (an old fashioned users manual would
: be good) for NETTOOL. Item #2 is maxed and needs to be expanded
: (Buffer pools), but I can't find how to do it.
:nettool.net.sys;info="res;di"
...
item #2 =
2 NS XPORT 1536____ (G) Inbound Buf Pool 35 63 1365 :)

Inbound Buffer Pool
Description: The Inbound Buffer Pool for the Network Interface is used for
all inbound data from all links supported by the Network
Interface. The number of buffers in this pool equals the
ammount of memory configured divided by the largest link size
for the NI.
High Value This condition implies heavy inbound congestion on the node.
Implications: IP should be logging Source Quench messages in this
situation. Should this be occuring in a low-traffic situation,
it implies a problem in the transport that should be reported.
Low Value NONE
Implications:
Configuration NMMGR Field: Maximum Inbound Buffer Memory
Relationship: Config Path: NETXPORT.GLOBAL
*********
If you are unable to start telnet, it is possible configuration values for
the inbound and outbound buffer pools are "too" high... All network
process which use buffers (including dts,ns,telnet, sna, etc) out of the
global buffer pool which is limited to 16mb.... Note: This limit has
been increased on 5.0 and 5.5 as per SR 5000-716019 in NMSEDT7 5.5 and
NMSEDT6 5.0 (please contact your friends at the RC and request this patch
as per SR 5000-716019 if you want it). The new limit is 32mb. Both
NMSEDT7 and NMSEDT6 are BETA TEST PATCHES.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
James Hofmeister
