Anybody know how to create a foreign tape (Dat 1.3gig) on an
Hp3000/932
running MPE4.0? I want to put an ASCII file on a tape that a Unix machine
can read. However, if I use the "store" command, HP will store on a
tape
in MPE format. FTP is out of the question with MPE 4.0

Any takers?

Thanks.

Josh

You can't use store because of the proprietary data it writes on the
tape. However you can use FCOPY.

:FILE T;DEV=TAPE;REC=-NNN,1,F,ASCII
:FCOPY FROM=DISCFILE;TO=*T

This should be all you need. We regularly swap tapes in each direction
with our AS/400. However one potential problem. We swap tapes to
and from AS/400 and to outside firms probably running MVS, however
the tapes are 9-track reel to reel. These tapes are always
interchangeable from system to system. Can the same be said for DDS
tapes even from a 3000 to a 9000, let alone some unknown brand UNIX
machine?
