The October 26, 1998 issue of Fortune magazine, on page 44, has the 
following comic exchange between a boss and a subordinate, seated 
with others around a conference table:

BOSS:  This labor shortage is killing us!

SUBORDINATE:  We're making record profits.  Maybe we should pay more.


B:  Running an ad in the classifieds doesn't cut it anymore...
Even paying bounties for referrals doesn't work.

S:  Perhaps we could offer higher wages.


B:  America is finished!  We can't get enough qualified workers to meet 
our customers' needs!

S:  We could always increase salaries.


B:  I propose I fire you and increase my pay accordingly.

S:  Damn labor shortage!  I blame the school system.
