Subject: Re: PCL Printers

Hi Dave,

Do you REALLY mean line printer?? coz as far as I know line printers
are like typewriters, dont speak PCL, dont know dpi just wham theres
your letter. Howerver there are plenty of inexpensive laser and
inkjet printers availble for under $1,000.

[Dave Gale] The newer Printronix printers use PCL2. The Old HP/LM printers
used PCL 1. PCL is simply HP's assignment of control sequences for the
printer. This means if you want compress print (ussually 16.67) the print
file would have an esc&k2S in the text or pick this up from the ENV file.

I guess working with HP equipment for so long we take for granted that
these things will work with 'Printers', but his is not what the Epson
printers would accept and of course IBMs and Okidata have their own
standards. Which is why you must load the correct printer driver for the
appropriate printer in your windows environment.
[Dave Gale]

Thanks for the rely.
