little of what you said is 'heart warming'...so let's start from the
beginning...
<http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/wrap.do?pageKey=patch.html.patchDBMPEUsageGuide&BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|>
(mind the wrap)
the above are the instructions for how to download a patch from the
itrc. i prefer method A: anonymous ftp from your hp3000 (because my
3000s have access to the internet). given what you've said, i'd also
download patch/ix and unpackp. btw, do be sure you're logged on into
the INSTALL group!
once you're in patch/ix -- just accept the defaults. it's (generally)
a pretty smart tool and you don't need to fuss with it....just go thru
each step.
personally, i'd purge everything associated with this patch off the
system. you don't need the account you created...
i'll add that *if* this patch is stageable, you should take advantage
of the power of stage/ix. one nice option that patch/ix offers (for
stageable patches) is to create a stage *and* a tape. it's nice
insurance. once the patch is stage (do take the time to read about
stage/ix!! it does need to be initialize if you've never used it
before), you reboot and *poof* the patch is installed.
