I am an Account Support Engineer with Hewlett-Packard and I have
updated several customers from 4.0 to 5.5 with no major problems.

It is possible that the person meant 4.5 to 5.5. I believe that
you have to go to 5.0 first in that case (I don't have any customers
on 4.5).
