After over 120,000 airmiles last year to over 20 different airports both in the USA and Europe,
I am convinced there is virtually no risk to laptops from the "scanners".
There are plenty of stupid people working the security checkpoints (mostly in the USA)
(is it a job requirement?), but I have yet to have a problem in over 5 years of carrying
various laptops, from several manufacturers.
I've had my machines :
poked, proded, scanned, sniffed, tweeked, torqued, dropped (don't ask), but never a problem.
My biggest irritation is when they want it turned on even after they have scanned it.
All they look for is something to appear on the screen. If I was a real terrorist, trying to
smuggle a bomb on board, don't they realize I am going to be prepared for this and have enough
"guts" in the thing to get it to display some words on the screen just to fool them?
Like I said, stupidity must be in the job description.
Oh well, back to writing annual performance reviews :-\
