It's perhaps a restatement of the obvious but for most shops the real
problem isn't only the format in which the date is carried but also involves
the myriad of calculations involving "year" imbedded in lord-knows how many
programs. Since the beginning of time - in this business at least - it has
been axiomatic that future years are greater in value than this year. Unless
these calculations take into account the turn of the century, White Papers
from HP and commitments from 3rd-party software vendors and other external
sources can do little to provide real peace of mind.
Methinks the only viable solution for any organization which does any of its
own programming lies in a systematic, line-by-line analysis of all of its
code to identify potential calculation problems involving the year "00" and
a subsequent programmatic solution.
