This happened to us as well--several times.  We finally made a call to the
Response Center and were told to do the following:

1.  Power console OFF
2.  Hold "D" key down
3.  While holding "D" key down, power unit ON
4.  Let go of "D" key after about 15 seconds (You should hear at least 2 tiny
beeps)
5.  Hit <return> after the message "Using Default settings, press RETURN to
clear" appears

I don't know why this happens, but everytime we do the steps above, our console
is well again.
