Reading this thread about the lack of exposure of the HP3000 is quite interesting. From the professional standpoint, it is just another system in my arsenal of skills. I do believe that the issue is "applications" like other people stated. If there are applications that are "sound" and can compete head on with available applications in other platforms, then it does deserve to survive. Otherwise, it is time to "allocate" our scarce training time in embracing and enhancing newly acquired skills. Since we are responsible for our own destiny (not HP), we ought to be on top of the situation and be ready to tackle any system if we haven't done so by now. I have worked for HP as a contractor 2 times and the conclusion is HP3000 = Legacy, Legacy = Let the contractors deal with it, we have better things to do, like "tomorrow" stuff. So there we go and treasure hunt, dig up and convert the Legacy apps. So, it doesn't surprise me that Top people at HP don't even mention MPE. They leave the dirty work for the contractors. So we profit from their "good/bad vision".

The HP3000 is not a best kept secret. It is all an reality/illusion mix as far as I am concerned. We ought to be able to tackle most of the available systems in the market, at least to the point to write applications and make a good living. We are not "Loggers" that only depend on trees. Without "us" none of these systems would amount to anything. Think positive, believe that you control your destiny, nobody else. All I hear is pretty much like "old timer" talk, one company, 20 (1 year) experience talk. Go out there, seize the opportunities. They come in all different flavors and HP is just one of the flavors to pick from.

So, Dump the owl, dump the silly lines. Just don't show up! Boycott the party. That will get the message louder and will allow you to put your good money into educating yourself out of HP. The more you know the more you are worth.

Carly who? Who cares? I run my own show so should you!
