I first loaded Windows 2000 as RC3 in 1999. It thought it was the best
from MS ever. And it was. I was coming off Windows NT, which whilst
extremely dependable, was a bear on a laptop. One had to reboot to
insert a PC-Card. I went through the whole gamut of Windows 2000, from
RC3 to the latest service pack and it only got better. It took me a
while before deciding to finally move to Windows XPP. I did not even
consider XPH. My reason for the delay was that W2KP had been exemplary,
no crashes of freezes in 3+ years. I did not want to lose that.

XPP is even better than 2KP, especially if one does wireless networking,
something in which I am deeply involved. XPP builds on the
dependability of 2KP and just gets better; better wireless support,
better user interface, more wizards, more multimedia built-in, etc.

My recommendation is to get XPP and do a complete install, not an
upgrade. In fact, I bought a new disk drive for my laptop to install
XPP on, still preserving my W2KP installation. I did a complete install
on the 60GB 5200RPM drive, transferred all my data and programs and
never looked back. I did install SP1 when it came out. It has a lot of
security fixes.

XPP is outstanding. (What do you not like about the activation
requirement? I only did it once and it was painless.)

Happy New Year to one and all:

Can someone point me to any reviews comparing Win2000 Pro and the
various flavors of XP.

Many reviews state to stay away from XP home edition but fail to endorse
XP Pro as a better
alternative.

Stay on Win 2000 Pro or move to XP Pro (I don't like the activation
requirement).

Olav.
