Yes, many customers, including HP itself, have done so.

For FC-Connection on the 989KS you can use:
o A5814A "option 001" for direct connect only to XP48/XP512, NO FC-SAN
support
o A5814A "option 003" for 1Gbit FC-SAN connection.

We set-up a website for router information at:
http://jazz.external.hp.com/mpeha/router/index_router.html
Reading the "Router White Paper" is critical to not driving yourself
crazy.

HP officially supports MPE/iX HP e3000 connection to the following HP
"Storage Array" products:
o VA7100, VA7110, VA7410 (no 7400)
o XP48/512, XP128/XP1024, XP10k/XP12k (no XP256-FC, no XP24k)
o (EVA/MSA NO Support. We could read disks but had problems device
initialization at one time which prevented forward progress until after
end-of-sales for 3000s)

>> Non-HP storage -- none officially supported.
>> Non-HP SCSI bridges -- none officially supported.
Every single product above required some firmware or MPE software
modification so though I cannot say that other things won't work I will
say there will be additional risk. Its your data you decide.

As Donna writes an even better solution is are the A/N-Class with the
A6795A PCI-2GB FC HBA; same set of Storage Devices supported.

Hope That helps,

Subject: [HP3000-L] Connecting a 9x9KS to a SAN ??

We are looking into the possibility of connecting a 989KS server to a
new 2Gb
fibre SAN. I believe that using a Fibre to SCSI switch may be a
possibility.
Replacing the 989KS with an N-Class is the other option available to us
so
that we can do it natively.

Many thanks in advance.
