Back after a weekend out in the woods, I find large threads on
OT: variants and QCT. I put in my $0.02 on the ON topic one:

Wirt after everybody:

While I understand and appreciate Wirt's design goal of absolutely
minimizing the number of "optional switches", comments over the last
few days seem to make it pretty clear that this is one case where a
"switch" really is justified.. Given a switch, I can live fairly happily
with either destructive or non being the default. If "ambivalent" is not
on the ballot, after five seconds or so of careful reflection, I vote for
NON as the default; as the most "backward compatible" choice; and
for some of the other reasons that were mentioned....

I'll roger that...... but note: The ONLY remaining serial connection
to our HP 3000 is the HP support modem; haven't had a DTC
connected for a long time now.... although to be fair: If our network
should go totally Tango Uniform, it's nice to have that modem as a
"first-line" back-up to RAS access (as compared to the "last chance"
backup of physically going up to the computer room)... But I can't
remember the last time (if there ever was one) when in calling our
remote support modem that I needed to transfer a file... YMMV...

My feeling on the above is......: negative (although not violently so)..
