I think you need to remove the word "US" from your message and substitute
with "Europe" and you have a good analysis of the problem.

And of course The US has lost any moral authority it might have had by
its
less-successful-than-Russia's foreign adventures - not being
particularly partisan, Albright & Kosovo are at the root of this - so
you'll have to resort to realpolitik. Threaten them with WWIII, refuse
to consume their gas, or, worst of all, take the Winter Olympics away
from them. That'll get 'em back on their knees.

Denys Beauchemin in his usual unbiased way quoted :

Denys, I don't want to get into a lengthy, discussion about Georgia/USA
and
Russia but I just wondered if you had researched the reasons for why
this
"war" occurred?

Did you know that the US has been helping Georgia build up their armed
forces in an unprecedented way with both arms and "advisers"? Did you
realise that the Georgian Government decided to use these armed forces
to
invade Southern Ossetia to try to force them not to break away from
Georgia
and declare independence? Did you think that the Russians would be too
afraid of the US influence there to respond to the aggression in the
heavy
handed way that they did?

No doubt you will produce all kinds of Bush/McCain propaganda which
"proves" that Georgia was the victim here rather than the villain but I
bet
there are many families in Southern Ossetia who have lost family members
to
Georgian aggression who could tell you differently.

Just my $0.02.

Cheers,

John Dunlop
