Well wise maybe in the sense that you're right!

The problem is unattended backups hanging because the tape drives needs to
be cleaned. The backup starts and we watch it for 30 minutes or so and then
close up shop. Sometimes the DLT drive decides it needs cleaning at some
point after we leave. This leaves the backup waiting until the next morning
for someone to clean the drive and re-insert the backup tape. This is a
realy problem for us since we run 9 DLT4000 drives and the backup daily
backup takes about 5 hours and the weekly backup is 10 hours. You can see
that the number of potential failures per month is fairly high for us (kind
of like having a disk farm!).

I'd like to scan the $STDLIST of the backup for the error "S/R 1454" and
then send an e-mail to our staff if the string is found.

Third party product are automatically disqualified since we won't be doing
anymore updates to our MPE systems.

Carl

Carl,

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm being a wiseguy, but you then tell us how
you want to do something, not what you want to do. Can you just state the
problem you are trying to solve? Perhaps someone else on list has solutions
that you had not considered. Of course, vendors are now licking their
chops...
