Are you using LZW because you're not using Orbit's compression, or just because you want them in one file?
As said before, I have not had problems with regular FTP (HP3000 to HP3000) on regular Orbit disc files.
I had some teething issues, but got over them.

I use a freeware item called LZW to zip up the Orbit files. The LZW file created is then FTP'ed to the target where LZW then unzipes the Orbit files from where they can be restored.
Not as elegant as using FTP directly (was never able to achieve this even wit assistance from orbit support) or the DSCOPY solution previously reported.
