Hi Doug,
The job streams that I use from Orbit for Partials and Fulls do put the Orbit
restore program or a runtime version of it on the tape....

Here is what the manual says to do :)

Art "See! I do read the Manual :) hehehe " Bahrs

Excerpt from Page 76 of my Orbit Manual:
BACKUP can be used to restore files onto any HP3000 system running the same
Operating system as the computer from which the files were stored (i.e. MPE/V or
MPE/iX). This includes computers that are not licensed to use BACKUP.

This is possible because BACKUP writes a copy of itself with its RESTORE
function unrestricted onto the beginning of every store volumeset.

In oreder to restore files, MPE/iX :RESTORE is used to restore the BACKUPPL
program and message catalog from tape and then BACKUP is run to restore the
BACKUP-format data files.

Procedure: (with some typos caused by my typing or lack thereof! hehe)
1. Log on as OPERATOR.SYS or MANAGER.SYS

2. Issue a file equation for the tape drive:

3. Mount the first tape of the store volumeset and place it online. Then
restore BACKUPPL and BACKUPMC into PUB.SYS using NM RESTORE:
    :RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@;LOCAL;OLDDATE;SHOW

4. Run the BACKUPPL program

5. Proceed to restore files. If the DIRECTORY option was used on the store, you
can also specify it on the restore to recover nonexistent users, groups, and
accounts:
     >RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@;SHOW;DIRECTORY

5.b If the DIRECTORY optioin was not used on stroe specify the CREATE option to
create nonexistent users, groups and accounts:
    >RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@;SHOW;CREATE

6. Purge the BACKUPPL & BACKUPMC files from PUB.SYS as they should have been
restored into PUB.ORBIT.

Hi all,

A customer of mine sent me a tape using Orbit backup. I don't have the
product to restore the files. I know that with RoadRunner they automatically
put a version of their restore program on the front of the first tape in
TurboStore format. Does Orbit do something similar? If anyone can give me
the procedure I would really appreciate it. I looked on Orbit's web site
hoping they would have a downloadable version of the restore program but
could not find one.

My customer will appreciate it too since they are on the west coast and I
would have to get them out of bed to get an answer. ;)

TIA,

Doug.
