Well actually, it fits pretty neatly. Before HP would let us announce plans
to phase out the hp e3000 and the MPE/iX operating system, we had
to make sure that there would be hardware available with enough processing
power to carry customers through the next five years. That's why we
introduced the a-class and n-class last year, and why we are introducing
performance "kickers" to those systems now.

Although I'll admit that I had grave concerns at first, I have spent a great
deal
of time since last November researching the subject of MPE migrations. I
did this while preparing for the 'transitions' series of webcasts. During
that time,
I became convinced that migrating off of the hp e3000 is the right thing to
do.
My biggst concern at first was that it couldn't be done. I now know that
it can be done - that the tools exist - and that there are lots of customers
who have migrated successfully.

Let me be perfectly honest and clear here. HP wants to make sure that
every hp e3000 customer has access to enough MPE processing power to
carry their business through the next five years.

It's a mistake to think of this as a revenue play. At this point, the hp
e3000
business is small enough that it doesn't make a heck of a lot of difference
to HP's bottom line whether we sell any e3000s or not. Once you realize
that, you'll understand that it doesn't make any sense to believe that HP is
just trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of the 3000.

I think it's great that there are old MPE/V or MPE/iX 5.0 boxes that
are still running smoothly. But it's important to understand that customers
who are using those boxes have no reason to be concerned about last
November's announcement. In November, we said that they would not
be able to receive HP support for the 3000 after 2006. If you're using an
MPE/V box, you can't get support from HP today.
