I know a lot of us have been, ugh, disenchanted with HP the last few years but I have to tell you of an experience I had this morning.

I have an old HP Pavilion that has sat unused for a few years - it is 7 years old and had Win 98.

I wanted to give it to an employee to use for data entry at her home - and use the HP system restore CD.

I get to the end and low and behold the thing wants a registration number.

Of course my desk being what it is in the shifting sands over the years the Microsoft registration number disappeared.

I am anticipating a rather frustrating morning just trying to contact the right people at HP to see if they could do anything.

I go to the web site and within 5 minutes find "chat support" so I dial in from my house.

Shortly an "Alfred K" comes on line in the pop up screen and within 10 minutes the problem is solved.

He wanted the serial number of the unit and within 5 minutes gave me the registration code.

All without charge or hassle.

There aren't too many companies who'd be interested in supporting a 7 year old PC with an OS that is generations old...

My hat's off to HP...
