To tell a database that it doesn't have a DBE attached:
Login as creator
DBUTIL
>>DETACHDB dbname
Ignore error messages about "Detach failed from dbe (ATCERR 32052)"
>>EXIT

But I would really want to check out the important question: What happened
to the DBE that it "thought" it was attached to?
