"...by the time the decision was made to hold SIG3000 back to back ... our
options were more limited."

I would hope that next year, assuming both functions are again held, there
will be better coordination between those planning them. Having two days
"off" between functions is just about the worst schedule possible. Either
run them together and take a whole concentrated week or separate them by a
month or two. Please.

Hi Paul,

  The simple answer was "it wasn't available". The Solutions Symposium
was planned in advance of SIG3000, and by the time the decision was made
to hold SIG3000 back to back with it, our options were more limited.
<personal opinion>
  I would have rather had a better conference rate as well (I'll be
staying at the Hilton paying $179/night out of my pocket too!), but
considering we chose to run the SIG meetings late into the night in
lieu of extending the conference to a fourth day, its worth it to me
to spend the night at the hotel holding the conference.
</personal opinion>

You missed a main point. Why didn't Interex book *both* conferences in the
cheaper
hotel????
