Michael,

A couple of observations. Why don't you take the people with the negative
perception and show them the list of companies that use the e3000
(www.TechGroupMD.com/mpeusers.htm). There are roughly a thousand companies
on the list, including 4 of the Fortune 5 companies. Many of them are well
known names. The application key link in the opening paragraph will also
show them over 40 applications available no the box, not to be confused with
utilities.

Second, have you considered the Secure WebConsole from HP? It's a little
box roughly the size of a VCR tape. The e3000 connects to it via the same
cable you use to connect the old terminal. It connects to the network, via
an RJ45 port. Effectively it is a little web server. Any workstation that
can get to the IP address you give it and has a java enabled web browser,
can access the console. The "secure" part comes from setting up a select
few User IDs and passwords, that are allowed to access the console. It is
great. You can even remotely reboot the system (<cntl>A, <cntl>B, etc.).

Thanx,

Subject: MPE Console Emulator?

Around here, the HP-3000 is viewed as a old obsolete machine, but needed
because of all the old applications on it. Wrong, I know, but perception is
what really counts. GUI3000 has help change this view point, but then we
have the old GREEN terminal as a console. I want to retire the old terminal,
and connect the M.P.E. console to a Terminal Emulator using the COM port on
a NT workstation. In fact I have done this, but it hangs sometimes, and the
only way to get the console back is to power cycle the HP-3000, and restart
the terminal emulator. Has anyone on the list done this before, or have any
pointers to do this the right way?
