A "Jamaica Box" is another name for a HASS (High Availability Storage
Solution) enclosure. The HP part numbers are A3311A (deskside), and
A3312A (rackmount). They both consist of two extraction fans, a power
supply and eight drive bays. An additional (redundant) power supply can
be purchased. Each HASS can hold up to 8 2.1GB drives, or eight 4.3GB
drives. If you choose to put 9GB drives in it, you are limited to a
maximum of four. These enclosures can be used for SE or FWD SCSI drives.
The appropriate cable must be ordered depending on which is selected.
You can also use Jamaica's for DAT drives. A HASS with 8x4.3GB drives,
redundant power supply, 2.5m HD cable and first year support from HP
retails for $12,563. Different drives or combinations thereof will
change this number.
