Thanks for this. I think

I am not using Apache, although whether relevant or not I'm not sure. The
HOST file currently resolves the address to a hard wired address via a
gateway.

As the domain name in the NS screen is set to internal.companyname.co.uk as
is the domain value in the RESLVCNF file does that mean I will get

internal.internal.companyname.co.uk.

Should I put in the precise DNS names in the search path eg.

dnserver1.internal.companyname.co.uk

or just

internal.companyname.co.uk
