Just wondering, do you consider the leaders of US and UK churches, along with the Pope, to be pro-Saddam "peaceniks" too?
Could you clarify what a peacenik is perhaps as I've lost track? (So far it seems its a left-right-fascist-socialist-misfit who is partial to long walks at spouses bequest).

How about ending the sanctions? End them right now because they are killing the people and Saddam uses them as propaganda for his own ends (as he did the peace marches). Former heads of the weapons inspectorate and UN sanctions teams have spoken out against there continuation. Increase the number of weapons inspectors, continue the disarmament of his military (US/UK have conducted air strikes on a continuous basis since 1998- most recently two days of bombing done last week), maintain the no-fly zones, continue with surveillance and support Iraqi opposition groups. Take the long view. Sure, it doesn't look good to a domestic audience (no votes in it) but that's just tough.

Prime Minister Blair says the war is to make Iraq disarm. He then says the goal is regime change, yet he has now admitted that Saddam can stay if he disarms. Then it's about freeing the Iraqi people, but if Saddam stays, how are they freed?. In freeing the Iraqi "people", no concession is made for Kurdish self-determination which would upset Turkey. So which people does he/Bush mean?. Then it's about continued failure to abide by UN resolutions - yet other nations (with WMD) blatantly ignore them. Finally, it's a question of morality, yet US and UK church leaders who ought to know a thing or two about morality are opposed to war. The Saudis want the Sunni minority to retain power after Saddam is toppled. The Shia majority want a voice. As do the Kurds. President Bush has indicated he wants the Ba'ath party to remain just without Saddam which has upset Iraqi opposition. Now, what was this war all about? There is no "reason" to it at all. It's shameful.

One doesn't have to be a "peacenik" to know when one's chain is being yanked. (no pun intended).
