Big problem with the VIC (Video Interface Controller!) was it's 3.5K of
RAM which I don't THINK was easily expanded. I learnt on a ZX81 with
16K, that keyboard crippled me for life.

I had four ZX81s and five ZX printer's replaced under warranty! Quality
control wasn't Sinclair's strong point. I went on to a 48K Spectrum and
a QL. The QL was a great machine.
