The National Weather Service (NWS) is recruiting a Computer Systems
Analyst/ Programmer to fill a position at the National Operational
Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC) in Chanhassen, Minnesota
(20 miles west of Minneapolis).  This is a Civil Service position
classified at the GS-12/13 level ($47,089-$72,794) depending on
qualifications.  The Center is responsible for generating
operational snow cover products from ground-based, airborne, and
satellite snow cover data sets used in water resources forecasting.
The major duties of the incumbent are: (1) to maintain PC software
(written in C) required to support real-time airborne gamma
radiation detection, (2) to serve as PC and UNIX (HP-UX) systems
administrator and maintain PC and UNIX (HP-UX) computer networks,
(3) to develop applications software using C in a PC/UNIX
environment to support geographic information systems, digital
image processing systems, and hydrologic modeling systems, and (4)
to serve as the Informix relational database management system
administrator in UNIX (HP-UX) environment.

The incumbent must have a mastery of the following specialized
areas: (1) PC- DOS/Microsoft Windows hardware systems and
programming languages, (2) UNIX operating system and X-Windows in
workstation environments, (3) applications programming experience
using C in a UNIX/X-Windows environment, (4) experience as PC/UNIX
computer system and network administrator, (5) experience as UNIX
relational database management system administrator, and (6)
applications programming experience in a PC and UNIX environment to
support geographic information systems, relational database
management systems, digital image processing systems, and
conceptual simulation modeling systems.
