Too bad I'm so lousy with names. I spoke with a gentleman who was =
working
on just such a project. Back around 1990 or 1991 this fellow was working
with SCS Engineering in Reston, VA. I believe that he was also involved
with the development of FastTran. Maybe someone out there knows who I'm
talking about.
Bob Jankalski -- Ideal Computer Services
Let me clear the air. The subject has two parts:
1. A company wrote a 3000 Classic code simulator (it actually took the =
3000 code and converted it to PC code). I do not know what happened to =
them, but they may have had problems with software licenses.
2. One of the partners in our group wrote the following:
a. An MPE command interpreter for the PC.
b. An Image analog for the PC.
c. A VPlus emulator was also done
d. Most intrinsics were emulated.
e. The whole was integrated.
f. The intent was to integrate off-the-shelf PC compilers (Realia =
COBOL, etc) These compilers have certain facilities that would =
allow the source to be COBOL/3000, etc.
g. Transact (Fastran) was done.
This project was abandoned because:
1. The FASTRAN PC compiler (the first language implemented) did not =
sell well, in spite of many saying that they wanted such a facility,
2. Prospects wanted more and more of MPE emulated. The task became =
daunting.
There you have it,
