I believe they have decided to act based on the current landscape and
not on what the computer industry looked like back in the 80 and 90's.

I also believe I can't know enough of HP's strategic direction and
'board-think' to be that judgemental - yet :-)

Take a look at the competition...

Oracle - now with a server businss (sun) after many s/w acquisitions
ibm - increasingly focusing on software and services
cisco - agressively entering the server business

So, getting a ceo who understand the enterprise s/w business starts to make some sense...


BTW, how did Anne Livermore get cannonized as a great leader...
