SAMBA and ROMAN-8 character-set

Since MPE uses the character-set ROMAN-8 and Windows NT uses UNICODE,
all the special characters (e.g. the german 'umlaute' like D,V,\) are
unreadable when browsing files via SAMBA/iX using MS-EXCEL or WORDPAD.
Has anybody an idea how to solve this problem (without coding a
conversion program) ??
